Jan 02, 2017 OP, I ran Snow Leopard on my 2010 MBA until getting the new 2016 MacBook a few weeks ago and in my experience Firefox was the best from compatibility and performance standpoints. I didn't try any small-brand browsers though, but those are all based on other browsers anyway. On my old Mac (OS X 10.5.5), I use Firefox, which seems like the most supported browser for the operating system. Neither Safari nor Chrome are up-to-date.

Safari used to have a lot of issues until the last 2 updates for it came and it works fine now, but is a total RAM hog and is pretty slow if I have more than 2 tabs. Firefox not so much, but is slow compared to Safari & Chrome. Chrome would be my choice as it handles everything very well, but since a few months ago Chrome would randomly disconnect from the internet after browsing a few pages and I would have to quit and then relaunch Chrome. This happens regardless of whether or not I have other applications that use internet connection running. Chrome never cuts out if I'm just on youtube, so I use Safari for non Flash pages & Chrome for youtube almost exclusively.
